SOUTH AFRICAN SCOUT ASSOCIATION GAUTENG AREA 2nd BOKSBURG (St MICHAEL'S) SCOUT GROUP BADGES In scouting you have three different types of badges. The first type, and least difficult, are Scoutcraft Badges. These badges, introduce new types of experiences and skills to the scouts, with fairly easy levels of difficulty. The second type of badge, is called an Interest Badge. These are for anyone who is really interested in the topic of the badge (there are 87 to choose from). These are fairly hard, and will take some effort and time to obtain. We do some interest badges on camps, and on Fridays nights, but we suggest to all scouts, that if they have an interest to do it on there own. The final type of badge and the most important are the Advancement Badges. Your first Advancement badge is the Pathfinder Badge, which has several tests and different subjects, but at a rather elementary level. Then comes Adventurer, which covers different subjects, but also can be completed by a junior scout. First Class, covers most subjects that the other two do, but with higher levels of difficulty and several of the tests require leadership skills that you can only acquire at an older age. Explorer needs you to attain certain Interest Badges, and to have led other scouting activities. And finally, the badge that a scout works for at the end of it all, is the Springbok Scout Award. If you see any scout, with this badge you know that he has experienced wonders and can be trusted with most tasks responsibly.
